Make a Difference
Making a difference in a community
or in life general is always a really good thing to do. Sometimes it is the
little things that count, the things that can create somewhat of a domino
effect. Adopt a Waterway is a project that allows all people to come out in
their community to make a difference. A waterway is a river, canal, or another
source that water runs through. Adopting a waterway is when someone in the community
“adopts” the waterway and brings volunteers to help clean up the waterway. The
picture below is of the waterway supports and supports my next statement. Cleaning
the waterway makes the community look better and function better. Also, it
helps bring a community together.
“Beyond Classroom Borders” is an article that speaks about
volunteering and taking action outside of the classroom. In the article, one
key statement that stands out is “ As related to academia, and more
specifically higher education, collaborative service learning combines the more
traditionally recognized concept of volunteering with relevant higher learning
objectives requiring application and synthesis of knowledge gained from the
learning experience” (Kelly 1). Bringing students out of the classroom and into
real live volunteering situations or just outside activities may be very
beneficial to the learning process and in “Beyond Classroom Borders” it is
explained to the readers how. This is similar to taking on an internship, learning
the business that one day you may be a part of.
In “Beyond Classroom Borders” the
article is intended for people who are in the classroom, such as students and
professors. The purpose of the text is to persuade the readers that actions
outside of the classroom are necessary and to try to get them to include it
more in the class’s curriculum. For students, it tries to persuade them to
engage and really make a part of the outside actives because they are a good
part of the learning process.
With that being said, the Adopt a
Waterway project is a great way for students to be taken out the classroom,
volunteer, and make a difference in their community or the communities nearby.
The picture above shows volunteers who helped at the last Adopt a Waterway project;
the next picture taken could be of you and wouldn’t it feel good to see
yourself on a newspaper or website doing a good service for the community. So, join us for the next opportunity to
volunteers and help clean the waterways; it will on be September 7, 2016 at 8 a.m.
The waterway that will be being cleaned is the waterway that runs from Center
Street to Cunningham Drive. Everyone should come out to and help; it will be a
great experience and it might encourage you to invite other or even adopt the
waterway.
A clean waterway is just the start
to a very clean and better world. Coming out to clean the waterway is not only
beneficial to the community but beneficial for you. Who wouldn’t want an
employee or friend who cares about the environment and can spare their time to
try and make a difference? Companies, teachers, schools, and peers care and
take interest in people who participate in projects like these. Volunteering in
this project shows good character, work ethic, and the effort to try to make a change.
Cleaning the waterways is something that everyone should care about because
everyone benefits from a clean waterway. So come out and help clean the waterway, do
some research, and encourage other people to do the same. Now cleaning the
waterways will help make the community and the world a better place for you,
your children, and their children.
